Meet Grand Forks’ Hog Doctors

Everett Bauer

I’ve loved motorcycles for as long as I can remember – and probably even longer. My life has always revolved around them. I got credits for every small engine and automotive class my high school offered, and spent my free time working on and building engines (as well as bugging my grandpa to buy me a sled).

My passion drove me to the Motorcycle Mechanics Institute (MMI) of Florida, and then to Harley Davidson University (HDU) where I received my PHD in the greatest motorcycles ever made. I founded Everett’s Old School Cycle in 2007. I returned to HDU in 2015 to study the newer models’ advanced chassis and electrical systems, and then to MMI in 2021 for additional training in advanced electronics and power trains. Today I am proud to put my experience and education to great use: servicing my North Dakotan neighbors’ Harleys.

I fell in love with Harleys the second I started riding them, right out of high school. The U.S. Navy didn’t find any use for my specialized motorcycle knowledge (understandably), though I am proud to have served as an Aviation Boatswain’s Mate aboard the USS Nimitz where I maintained hydraulic engines in aircraft arresting gear.

After my honorable discharge, I returned home where I immediately did two things: got a job as an oil bay technician, and bought my very first Harley. After a brief foray into servicing diesel engines, I decided to follow my passion even if it meant taking a pay cut. I got a job at Honda Powersports, where I became bronze level certified even though I spent the whole time wishing I could work on real bikes.

Thankfully, that day came when the local Harley dealership closed down. Everett’s Old School Cycle needed another technician to serve all the dealership’s former customers, and I will always be grateful to have answered the call.

Whether I’m riding my own or letting Everett take the handlebars, I love being on a Harley. I also love learning about Harleys, and am blessed to have been with the greatest teacher – my husband – for over 20 years.

In addition to helping and observing Everett in the shop, I learned a lot about Harleys while working in various departments at the local dealership until its closure. I’m proud to be a wife, a mother, and a valued member of the Everett’s Old School Cycle team.

Meet Us at Sturgis

We attend the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally every year, and hope to meet you there – not to work on your bike, because that week is strictly for pleasure, but just to meet a fellow devotee of the greatest motorcycle ever made!

Everett rebuilt the motor on my 1989 Sportster and my 1987 Electra Glide. The Sportster was a Complete rebuild down to the crank pin, truing the flywheels and balancing. Plus a conversion to 1200cc.

The Electra Glide rebuild included several performance upgrades:
S&S Carburetor, ThunderHeader Exhaust System, Dynatek Ignition System, Legend Shocks, EV27 Cam, etc…

This guy is simply the Best. You will not find a Better or more Knowledgeable HD Mechanic ANYWHERE !!

Carol K.

His ability to diagnose and troubleshoot the problem and have it up in running by the next day astonished me. The fact that I was from Massachusetts and I didn’t know anything about his ability got me back on the road and running without raking me over the coals like a dealership would. His low overhead made him able not to drain your walket.
